Sarah's face masks

Sarah G says:

"I've made up 23 masks and I'm out of elastic. I still have more rectangles cut out so I might do some more with ribbons instead."

I made 7 kid sized masks as well.
Because you know there will be somebody who needs a pterodactyl mask.

Jewels From Free Table Scraps

Lots of positive comments on this one, Kim J.

Here's a note from MCQ member and retreat co-chair Leah D:

Kim, I really like this and the colors.
I miss all you retreaters and had a pile of projects that I do not seem to be getting much done. Anyone else?  I made a pile of face masks, have done some charity sewing and zoom meetings and have done one table runner and have it sandwiched to quilt. The pile of projects has not dwindled at all.   Let's hope next week I get more done but somehow with the way the world is at the moment I do not feel like I need to rush as being home seems to be the new norm for who knows how long.    I hope all is well with you all and you are staying safe.

Mona Lisa takes a break

From my church friend Deb S
and The Academy of Art, Creativity & Consciousness:

"Mona Lisa takes advantage of the closure of the Louvre to take a little time for herself..."

Face masks?

When "they" said make face masks, I did. Oh, wait. This is not what "they" meant. These are postcard to send and say:
"Looking in on you. You okay?"
Okay. I've got 30 face masks ready to sew around.
That's next.

Sarah moves her studio

Sarah G had to pack up her sewing studio and bring it home to her apartment. Here's what she wrote:

"I packed up my Sewing Studio today and brought my scrap collection home for the next two weeks. Tomorrow would have been the beginning of our wapo retreat. I guess covid is the new wapo? I was sad to leave my happy place, but I know I can make a happy place in my living room as well of course. As a promise to myself for the future I laid out the tessellating cross design that I had been saving for the day I had a big enough design wall to play on. Can't wait to get back to it! I did remember, but I had five large squares of sock monkeys on pogo sticks in this one! So excited. I'm not feeling that great so I wanted to get this done in case I tank tomorrow."

Wanda's 55 Face Masks

Cave Women are generously and happily sewing face masks to help with the shortage during this COVID-19 pandemic.

Wanda S writes:

"Here are 55 masks ready for delivery. A non-sewing friend has offered to deliver them.
Stay well, everyone.

Post cards

I've been busy making a few postcards for a few very nice people who are extraordinary.
Once they are in the mail - I'll do face masks. Found some 1/4 elastic to work with.

Our friend Jim S. had brain surgery a couple months ago. He's home recuperating and doing well.
His wife has been doing nursing, comforting and a jillion other activities to keep life on a relatively even keel.
They got this postcard for Valentine's Day.

This one is for Ann S at Holy Trinity. She devised a way to have choir with her kids via the internet. The kids are so happy to see one another and to sing together.
Ann is totally awesome with the kids year round.

My friend Gail has spent much time helping with her three grandchildren - two of whom are special needs children and sometimes very difficult.
It's Gail's birthday on Monday.

This video suggests to use two 9" X 6" pieces of fabric. You can use a 9" X 12" piece and fold it over for one less seam.
We all have some of this cotton fabric somewhere in our stash...heheheheh.

Show us your finished masks!

Movers and shakers

We are so sad to lose Zeeda and her total inspiration as she plans to move to Green Bay Wisconsin. But we can keep up our relationships through e-mail and this blog.
Here's what Zeeda has to say today:

"There hasn’t been any time for quilting for me.  However, my wonderful Tracy and our very tall and strong friend Matt just took a 20’ truckload of boxes to our new Green Bay house yesterday.  I now have room to stage and pack for the next load.

Tracy and I have been having floor installers, new appliances delivered, new countertops, drywall teams, etc. in the house.  After each crew leaves we disinfect stair rails, bathrooms, and any surface they may have touched.

My goodness our hands are raw!  Almost all the crew members understand our caution and we keep our distance as they work.  In fact, we try to work on different floors to give everyone space.

As I packed up my quilt room I pulled out a few projects I could work on, so maybe as things slow down I will be able to pull something out to work on.

I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy!"

There is hope and inspiration.

Sarah G writes:
My first gardening since I was 16 years old! Those tiny green shoots are the narcissus bulbs I planted last November. Gardening seems to be an Act of Faith.

And so is sewing.
This is my newest batch of Quilted Northern, it started off with a bucket full of garbage and I've gotten this far!
Thank you especially to Betsy and Teresa and Kim for the Kaffe scraps
. They really class it up :-)
Sarah's recently new sewing studio is so inspiring.
Bet she'd let you visit sometime.

An interesting link

Hello there. Karen H sent this out. I tried to copy it but it came out weird. Check the link.

Quarantine quilt (1).jpg
Have you ever wanted to part of a collaborative art project? Well, now is a great time.
Help us make the best of a strange situation and Craft during your Quarantine!
Create a 12x12 quilt block (with a 1 inch seam allowance on the edges. I.e. don’t decorate one inch on each edge)
Your block can be embroidered or embellished, pieced, painted, collaged… as long as it has a 12x12 fabric base and can be sewn together, we want it!
Each block will be included in a collaborative art project “Quarantine Quilt” to be displayed at the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts.
Mail your completed block to :
Wisconsin Museum of Quilts & Fiber Arts

Cedarburg, WI 53012
or

March 17

Sarah G has been organizing her scraps. Ready for the next project.
And this is just the little cabinet in the hallway!

Sharon E enjoys making face cradle covers for Sarah G's massage business.
Sarah says the more color, the better! Okay then.
Here are two of the colorful ones:

Cave Women are tuning in

Sarah G says: "I'm working on my quilted Northern "
"I have two cabinets full of large pieces of cloth! Course I wouldn't want to use it if I haven't sewn up all those two inch squares yet first"

Kim J: "Great idea Sharon. Here is my finished project. I call it Making Order from Chaos"

Betsy S.: "Here is what I’m doing for now"

"Anyone have an idea for these jewelry wise?"

From Wanda S: "Kim, you have a great eye.
Good idea, Sharon. We are lucky to like being home and we have plenty of sewing to do. I was going to suggest a virtual retreat for the time of the actual MCQ retreat which has been cancelled. This is the same thing just starting earlier.
So, today I sewed backs for three quilts. Maybe later I'll cut batting for them.
Happy sewing, everyone. Stay healthy.
Wanda"

Sequestered quilters

Whilst we art quilters are relegated to our sewing studios, we are looking to each other electronically for inspiration.
We will happily share our unfinished, finished and thoughts about our next project right here on the blog.
For starters, here's using some little found squares (been in the stash for a few years) with a bunch of blue strips of varying sizes:

Sharon Englund

Below are from Kim J.
She said, "I found these leftover parts. Think I’ll make a wall hanging."
